WISE BETTOR GAMBLING BLOG
Hi, my name is Wise Bettor and this is my gambling blog. I've spent well over 20,000 hours in Las Vegas casinos during my adult life. That time includes me being a casino dealer, gambling instructor, professional gambler and I also ran a successful sports handicapping service in Las Vegas for years—a legit one.
Wise Bettor is free for you to read, listing, watch and enjoy. I hope you'll find my gambling blog useful. If you do, please tell others. There's one thing you can count on at Wise Bettor, I won't guide you wrong. I will never tell you to do something just because it benefits an advertiser or myself. I see this on many "gambling" Web sites and it's just plain wrong. I've got the betting experience and I hope you'll have fun here.

One of the most important things that newer players need to learn is when to play and when to fold. Most, if not all, new players see far too many flops and this is why they lose. If you sit around and watch better poker players go at it, you will notice that they, in general, see few flops. Your position, as well as other factors, has a lot to do with how good a hand is. If you are in the early position, you should play tighter than if you are in late position. I thought it might be helpful to share some thoughts on opening poker hands in the early position.

The second I turned 21, I got a job in the Keno department of a local casino. It was the only job I could get—having no training. Soon after, I completed my training and moved in the pit (Craps, Blackjack, Pai Gow, Roulette, etc). Anyway, Keno was a fun game to play and operate. It’s basically the lotto. Good Keno places will run games pretty fast—every five minutes. Online keno allows you to play at whatever speed you desire and if you’re in a casino without a Keno area, there’s usually Keno machines. I am going to run down the basics of Keno and in minutes you’ll be ready to play.
The other day Bodog updated their poker software. While the poker software looks much better, it appears to run a little slow. To make sure I was not the only one who thought this, I asked some other poker players. They confirmed that the software was indeed running slower. One feature that’s nice is the multi-table side window. If you like playing multiple tables, it should be a little easier now. Overall the software is pretty decent. It has a nice find a table feature.
I thought we would look at some Poker lingo today. If you are new to the game of poker or thinking about getting into poker, knowing the lingo is a good idea. It helps when you can successfully communicate with your fellow poker player. Today, I am going to give a quick and basic poker lingo list. If you want to add some of your own, please leave a comment. Ok, so let’s get right to it.
I just thought I would write a quick post to let my visitors know that this is not a static website. Your participation, through comments, is welcomed and will shape Wise Bettor.
What is your favorite game or something you just want to know? Do you have a system you want to discuss? Let me know by either leaving your comment here or using my contact form. I want to hear from you.
As always, if you can tell people or spread the link to WiseBettor.com, I am grateful.
The casino is full of sucker bets. A “sucker bet” is basically a bet that has a high advantage for the house and is not a wise play for bettors. Today, I will give you a quick list of some sucker bets. If you think I missed some or want to discuss this subject, leave your feedback.
I often see mass confusion when it comes to probabilities—especially when it comes to systems. There are, in my mind, two probability numbers for each set of conditions. I feel it is necessary to explain this further to not only educate my visitors, like you, but to ensure that when you read my articles, you know what I am talking about.
Each year millions of dollars are spent on purchasing sports picks from the “experts.” The sports handicapping industry is filled to the brim with scam artists. I would estimate that 9 out of 10 sports handicappers are scam artists—by trying to pass themselves off as something they aren’t. The unsuspecting sports bettor can easily be taken and end up losing money on the transaction and the bet itself. False sports betting professionals are typically easy to spot.
I am often asked for a gambling system for Baccarat. Baccarat is one of the best casino games to play. I think many people don’t play it because of the lack of interaction. You basically bet the bank or player then sit back and watch the dealer work. The house advantage on Baccarat is very low and there are a couple “systems” to playing this game.
If you’re at least a casual blackjack player, you are most likely familiar with “the book” and playing according to it. For those who don’t know, “the book” is basically a set of rules to play by. For example, if you where playing by “the book”, you would never split a pair of tens or double down with a total count of five. However, sometimes there’s a reason to deviate a little. If you always play by the book, you will be limiting yourself.
The first thing many people think of when counting cards is mentioned is the Rainman (movie). However, counting cards is not about knowing what exact card is coming out and is not that difficult. When a player counts cards, that player is trying to utilize math to determine the value range of the remaining cards. By knowing this, your probability of knowing, or guessing, the next card increases dramatically. Counting cards in single-deck blackjack is very easy and it becomes more of a challenge as the number of decks increase.
Ok, perhaps I mislead you a little with the title. I am not going to give you a detailed breakdown of how to be a successful poker player; rather I am going to talk about something that is often overlooked and contributes almost solely to your long-term success. I have read many poker books that talk about statistics and “tells”, but few go to the heart of the matter and if they do, many soon-to-be poker players probably miss it.
Or is it? I came across, from a friend, a craps gambling system that touted itself as the worlds safest system. Imagine my surprise when I saw the system was basically one I developed many years ago while in dealer’s school for dice. Yes, they actually had a “school” to learn how to deal. I happen to think it was just a way to rake in government grants, but that’s beside the point. Anyway, this system, had you purchased it would get in you hot water right off the hop—no pun intended.
Each season a herd of sports bettors flock to sports books to bet on college and pro football. Casinos do their best to promote the playing of parlay cards—a money source for them. Many bettors, lured by the thought of winning many times their wager, buy into this marketing and begin to lose money. However, is there such a thing as a good parlay bet? Aside from difficulty, why are parlay bets a poor choice? Are you being tricked?
